Why sign up to Setting the Standard?

Going forward, participating boroughs will use the Setting the Standards database to check that Studio and Bed and Breakfast accommodation meets minimum property and management standards. Therefore, existing and new temporary accommodation providers should apply to be an Approved Provider through our Approved Provider Scheme and register their B&B and studio accommodation with Setting the Standard to receive placements from the 32 London boroughs that have signed up to the programme.


Registering as an Approved Provider on Setting the Standard will bring providers many benefits:

  • There will be no additional costs to providers as a result of the council joining this programme. The cost of operating Setting the Standard is being met by the participating local authorities.

  • Your property/properties will be inspected annually to ensure they meet the Setting the Standard guidelines. There will be no cost to you for this inspection.

  • Your property/properties will appear on the database and be visible to all participating London Boroughs.

  • You will have your own login, where you can log, track and fix any hazards or problems with your property/ properties.

  • You will have access to the Setting the Standard Central Team for support.

  • Your property or properties will be officially accredited with meeting the Setting the Standard’s guidelines.
